Kane Williamson and Jonny Bairstow both fell in the eighties, Williamson for 84 and Bairstow for 82, having shared 104 for the fourth wicket.
Yorkshire lost three for eight, including Gary Ballance run out off the first ball he faced going for two, and then three for four to slip from 253-6 to 257-9. Yorkshire lost their last seven for 63.
Jamie Harrison, Scott Borthwick, Ben Stokes and Mark Wood all took two wickets.
