Durham will be happy with their endeavours with the ball before tea, having picked up two Yorkshire wickets on day two at Scarborough.
Adam Lyth, to a stunning diving catch at fourth slip by Ben Stokes, and Phil Jaques have both fallen to leave the score at 82-2 after 20 overs.
Jaques was caught at short-leg off leg-spinner Scott Borthwick’s second ball.
Jaques (36) and Kane Williamson had shared 54 for the second wicket following Lyth’s dismissal to Chris Rushworth.
Earlier, Michael Richardson recorded his maiden hundred, while sharing a ninth-wicket stand of 84 with Jamie Harrison (35) and 26 for the tenth wicket with Rushworth, who only made one. Ryan Sidebottom finished with 4-85 as Durham posted 573 all out.
