Ryan Sidebottom has moved to 699 first-class wickets during an entertaining opening session between Yorkshire and Durham at Scarborough this morning.

Durham won the toss and elected to bat in the battle of the LV= County Championship’s top two sides, but they lost Keaton Jennings and Scott Borthwick lbw for ducks in three balls to Sidebottom in the third over to leave the score at 5-2.

They have recovered to reach lunch at 117-3 from 30 overs thanks in the main to opener Mark Stoneman’s unbeaten 73. Ben Stokes will also resume this afternoon on 18 not out.

But they did suffer a third loss, that of Will Smith brilliantly caught at third slip by Kane Williamson diving away to his right off Jack Brooks. Smith and Stoneman had shared 62 for the third wicket.

Meanwhile, Adam Lyth has signed a new contract with Yorkshire through until December 2015. Alex Lees has been left out of this match.
