Bradford League side Pudsey Congs bowed out of the ECB National Twenty20 Cup after a 73-run defeat in the northern regional final against Chester-le-Street.
The North East Premier League outfit got off to a flying start after winning the toss, with openers Simon Birtwhistle (68) and Andrew Smith (58) putting on 102 in just 9.4 overs.
Smith scored his runs from 27 balls with three sixes and six fours, while Birtwhistle made his off 55 balls before becoming one of five victims for Babar Butt at a cost of just 17.
Chester-le-Street’s total of 185-7 was a stiff target and Congs needed a good start. Unfortunately it did not turn out that way as skipper Gareth Phillips was bowled first ball.
Callum Geldart tried to revive their hopes with 52 from 35 balls, a knock that contained three sixes and four fours, but wickets tumbled regularly and Congs were all out for 112 (Quentin Hughes 3-20).
