The Division One table suggests only one outcome when leaders Cleckheaton entertain bottom club Baildon on Saturday.

But the JCT600 Bradford League doesn’t always work like that – just ask Woodlands.

The reigning champions have been beaten home and away by the struggling Jenny Lane outfit, whose only other win was against another established side in East Bierley.

Such victories show what Baildon are capable of on their day and skipper Craig Hitchenor wants them to remember how they were achieved when aiming to pull off another upset at Moorend.

“In the games that we have won, we’ve put a par score on the board and then bowled and fielded really well,” he said.

“Our Achilles heel has been our batting. Nobody in the top order has made big runs and that can changes games – look at how Tim Jackson has set up games for Cleckheaton.

“Against Woodlands and East Bierley, we made scores of 180-200 and then bowled and fielded really well. When you only make 140-150, however well you bat and bowl , it isn’t enough.

“I’m looking for somebody in our top order to put their hand up, say ‘it’s my day’ and make big runs.”

Hitchenor believes his side need to win four or five games out of the nine that remain to achieve safety.

He admits the Jenny Laners have put in some “fairly abject performances” since going up as Division Two champions last season. But he remains confident that some consistency can be found and relegation avoided.

The seam bowler said: “The mood is still good and we have good players. The likes of Mushy (Mushtaq Ahmed), Simon Webb and Jonny Reynolds played in the side that won the Division One title (back in 2009).

“We just need two or three players to really show what they can do.

“One thing we have not done is follow up a good win with another. We’ve slipped back into bad habits, like against Hanging Heaton last week.

“We need to get on a winning trail and string two or three victories together.”

Elsewhere, Woodlands – who were displaced at the top by Cleckheaton last week after losing their third game on the trot – could do Baildon a favour by beating third-bottom Saltaire at Albert Terrace.

Bradford & Bingley, just two points above Saltaire, host Lightcliffe, while Hanging Heaton will be in buoyant mood as they welcome Morley after reaching the Heavy Woollen Cup final last week.

Fifth take on third as Manningham Mills host Pudsey St Lawrence, while Pudsey Congs entertain East Bierley.

The pick of the latest round of Division Two matches pits third-placed New Farnley at home to Yeadon, who are fourth.

Leaders Farsley also face a tricky test at fifth-placed Bankfoot, while closest title challengers Spen Victoria travel to mid-table Hartshead Moor.
