Yorkshire fast bowler Jack Brooks has reflected on the weird and wonderful nature of Twenty20 cricket after taking a career-best haul the match after conceding his worst figures in the format.

Brooks put the skids under Leicestershire at Headingley last night with an excellent return of 5-21 from four overs as the Vikings won their first Friends Life t20 match this season at the fourth attempt.

It came just four days after recording 0-47 from four in the Roses tie against Lancashire at the same venue, which included 24 off one over against Tom Smith.

“On Friday night I got whacked out of the ground and this (Leicester) is one of those days that tells you how quickly T20 can change,” said 29-year-old Brooks ahead of this Friday’s North Division fixture at Durham.

“I enjoyed just playing on Friday in front of that atmosphere. The ball didn’t go my way but these things can happen.

“The two previous games I bowled quite well and took wickets, so I knew it was just one of those days. It was just unfortunate how it happened in that game.

“In T20 you’re going to get whacked more often than not but so far this season I haven’t been. I must be doing something right.”

Brooks is actually the leading wicket-taker in the competition with 11 from four matches, which also included four wickets on his White Rose debut in the format.

Yorkshire are now fourth in the section with three points from four matches, three points away from the second qualifying place. Durham are bottom of the group.
