Buttershaw St Paul’s endured a disappointing day at Division One leaders Scholes in the Central Yorkshire League.

Saints crashed to 71 all out chasing a modest 131, after Chris Kellett had taken 3-8 in nine overs for the Bradford side.

Dominic Cumming (51) top-scored for Scholes and, even without skipper Paul Carroll, Buttershaw must have fancied their chances.

But the host attack proved too much as Ross Irving (5-12), Joe Duffy (2-23) and Mohammed Sharafat (2-13) ripped through the Saints line-up in 28 overs.

Liversedge fared better as they moved into fourth place after a 17-run win over East Leeds.

Batting first, Sedge got off to a steady start through Alan Sumner (39) and Matthew Gibson (35) and although skipper Graeme Winn (66) was the only other major contributor, their 181-9 proved enough as Sean Wilson took 5-48 to leave the visitors just short.

Hopton Mills are second, behind Scholes, after an emphatic 149-run win at ten-man Ossett A, which was largely inspired by Chris Scott’s 101 out of 283-5.

Mirfield are still propping up the table following their 23-run defeat at Wakefield Thornes A, although they did pick up a point.

The Ossett first team fared little better than their relegation-threatened A team as they bid to escape the Premier Division danger zone.

They made 193 against Altofts, Khalid Usman (62) and Shoaib Latif (38) top scoring, but Altofts edged home by four wickets despite all-rounder Usman’s 4-31 in 15 overs.

Birstall missed a chance to go top as they went down by four wickets to leaders Townville with just two balls remaining.

Eric Austin struck 80 not out as Birstall made 245-8 after being asked to bat. But Townville just edged it after young Connor Harvey (118) and skipper Nick Bresnan (22) saw them home with a match-winning unbroken seventh-wicket stand.

Batley, 114-run winners over Hunslet Nelson, and Mirfield Parish, who beat struggling Northowram, currently occupy comfortable mid-table positions.

Birstall next go to Hunslet Nelson, Ossett are at home to Batley and Mirfield Parish travel to Wakefield Thornes.

In Division One, Scholes, at East Leeds, Liversedge, at East Ardsley, Mirfield, at Methley A, and Ossett A, at Buttershaw, are all on their travels but Lower Hopton entertain Oulton.
