Lightcliffe Cricket Club’s Rod Heyhoe is in contention for a national award.

He is down to the last two in the prestigious Institute of Groundsmanship (IOG) Industry Awards 2012, alongside Gabe Treharne of Miskin Manor Cricket Club, near Llantrisant, Wales, in the Volunteer Sports Groundsman of the Year section.

Leeds Rugby and Tottenham Hotspur Football Club are the candidates in the IOG Bayer Professional Sports Ground Team of the Year.

Bradford Bulls groundsman Leigh Beattie is up against Leigh Sports Village’s Keith Porter in the Everris/Syngenta Professional Rugby League Groundsman of the Year category.

Now in its fourth year, the awards have received a record number of nominations.

The winners will be announced by talkSPORT radio presenter Mark Saggers at York Racecourse on Thursday, December 6.
