Bradford Park Avenue boss John Deacey has warned that Ossett Albion will be no pushovers as his side bid for a place in the first round of the FA Cup on Saturday.

Avenue will be favourites to progress in the fourth qualifying round tie at Horsfall Stadium, being two divisions above their visitors, who are third from bottom of Evo-Stik League Division One North.

But Deacey said: “We have to try our best to reach the next round but it won’t be easy against a club like Ossett because they have proved their quality in previous rounds and will desperately want to beat us and put themselves on the national stage.

“This FA Cup tie is a big game for us but also for our opponents. They have beaten a team in our division and Farsley to reach this stage so we are faced with worthy opponents.”

The incentives to reach the next round are huge, with the chance to land a glamour tie against a Football League and sizeable monetary rewards at stake.

Deacey said: “The financial rewards are obvious but Ossett and ourselves are playing for a chance to take on the full-timers.

“The League One and League Two clubs come into the draw for the next round and it is not just about money but raising the profile of the non-league clubs still left in it.”

Avenue, like neighbours Guiseley, Harrogate Town and FC Halifax Town, have already banked £12,000 in prize money and another £12,500 is on offer for the winners of this weekend’s round.

Deacey added: “I think of the four Conference North clubs in the area, we are the poor relations so, unless we win this game and bank a few more quid, I can’t go to the board and ask for reinforcements.

“The board have been very good so far but the budget is stretched at the moment and we’re a bit thin on the ground.”

Deacey led Avenue to the first round proper last season but were handed an away tie at AFC Totton, a club on the same step of the pyramid system based in Hampshire.

By contrast, West Yorkshire neighbours Halifax drew League One Charlton at The Shay in a tie that was televised.

Avenue, who moved into the top half of the Blue Square Bet North with a draw at Chester FC in midweek, have no fresh injury worries.
