Rodolph Austin’s ever-present record for Leeds could be under threat in tomorrow night’s televised Yorkshire derby at Sheffield Wednesday.

The Jamaican midfielder faces a late check along with Michael Tonge before Neil Warnock names his side for his latest return to the Steel City.

Austin played the full game as Jamaica beat Antigua in a World Cup qualifier in Kingston on Tuesday night, despite complaining of ankle trouble beforehand.

Whites boss Warnock said: “He’s had a slight ankle injury and we were hoping he wouldn’t play. You’ve got all the travelling to consider as well so we can’t be sure about him.”

Tonge damaged shoulder ligaments against Barnsley a fortnight ago after landing awkwardly.

At least Warnock has midfield reinforcements to call on if either fail to make it for Hillsborough. David Norris and Paul Green are both available after recovering from their recent injuries.

Warnock, who has added Southend winger Ryan Hall on loan with a view to a permanent deal in January, said: “We’ve done reasonably well so far but I want us to keep things going with a good result. It’s a cracking game for both teams.”

Leeds are unbeaten in four and Norris, who came back from a torn thigh in the win over Barnsley, is happy with their progress.

He said: “There will be games we draw when we should have won, like Blackburn. But there have also been games where we didn’t play so well but picked up points. It’s typical of this league.”
