Ricky Ravenhill column: Thankfully you don’t see any racism at our level of the game.

I don’t know about the top division but in our league it is not a problem. In general, it’s something we have worked on in this country and I’d say it was under control.

Unfortunately it still seems to be a big problem in certain parts of Europe and we saw that again with the terrible scenes at the end of the England under-21 game in Serbia.

The authorities have to clamp down hard and make a strong stance. They must make an example of those responsible.

We do a lot of good work over here with the Kick It Out campaign to get the message across that racism is not acceptable. I’m not sure the same happens in some other countries.

Danny Rose should never have been sent off. People say you’ve got to take it on the chin and not react but you can’t blame him for kicking off at the abuse he got.

It’s not what you want to hear or should expect. I fully understand why he reacted like he did.

I think the only solution is a ban for Serbia and any countries where this still happens.

English football suffered when Liverpool were kicked out of Europe and we had to face up to our problems. We cleaned up our act after that and now the same punishment has got to be dished out.

On a brighter note, England will be happy with four points from two games. It wasn’t a good performance in Poland but the draw was a decent result.

The best result of the week was Northern Ireland’s fantastic draw in Portugal and I’m sure Rory will be saying it was all down to him, even though he didn’t play.

It was great for him to be involved in the international squad and all the lads were buzzing for him when he got called up.

That game was another reminder that no result is ever guaranteed. Northern Ireland played their best and Portugal were a bit off it and those things can happen.
