Guiseley will be seeking to emulate their league victory over Colwyn Bay when they head to the Welsh outfit again on Saturday in the FA Cup.

The Blue Square Bet North rivals have been paired in the third qualifying round, the same stage that saw the Lions exit last year’s competition.

Manager Steve Kittrick is hoping that lightning does not strike twice.

The Lions boss said: “You take what you are given in the cup and hope to get it right on the day no matter who you’re playing.

“Sometimes going to a team lower down the leagues doesn’t do you any favours, like in the last round against Bamber Bridge, when we were very lucky.

“Bamber did a job on us and played really well but we escaped from the match with a 1-0 victory.

“I thought they were very unlucky because they had done their homework on us and worked very hard.

“But this is different as we have been down there to Colwyn already this season and done well in getting a result (a 2-0 league win last month).

“They know all about us and we know all about them and that’s sometimes better.”

His side lost 1-0 to Northern League side Ashington last season – a team who were three tiers below Guiseley in the football pyramid.

The manager added: “If you get drawn against a side from lower down, whether it’s at home or away, they raise their game.

“You only have to look at Ashington in last year’s competition.

“We have to be mentally strong and make sure we don’t suffer the same fate this time round.”

Flying high in second place of Blue Square Bet North, Guiseley will be the favourites to progress against a side who are just four points off the bottom.

But Kittrick said: “There are no whipping boys in our division.

“If we don’t turn up and prepare properly for Colwyn Bay, we won’t win.”

The Lions chief has a full complement of players to pick from, with no current injury concerns affecting the squad.

Bay are offering Guiseley fans a pie, chips and a pint for £5 – but the offer is only available up to 2.30pm.
