Bradford Park Avenue head into the unknown for Saturday’s FA Cup third qualifying round at Carlton Town.

The tie represents a potential banana skin as the Nottinghamshire side operate two divisions lower than Avenue in Evo-Stik Division One South.

Horsfall boss John Deacey admitted: “I hadn’t heard of Carlton Town before the draw and I had no idea where it was – but that doesn’t mean we don’t respect them.

“We have had a free midweek and go there with a reasonably fit squad so we’re looking forward to it.”

Carlton – on the same step of the pyramid as Curzon Ashton, whom Avenue beat in the last round – are 14th in their division and their home league form is poor but they beat New Mills at their Stoke Lane ground in the last round.

One familiar face Avenue are set to come up against is Reuben Wiggins-Thomas, who had two spells at the club.

The midfielder, who scored for Carlton last week, signed for Avenue on loan from Chesterfield in the 2006-07 season and made a brief return two seasons later before leaving for Hucknall Town. He racked up 20 appearances for Bradford and scored one goal.

Avenue should have travelled to promotion chasing Chester FC in the Blue Square Bet North Division on Wednesday but that game was off because their opponents had an FA Cup replay to attend to.

Chester were at home to Gainsbourough Trinity on Tuesday.

Deacey was glad that his squad, which was injury ravaged early in the campaign, had that extra rest and recovery time. Forward Alex Davidson was substituted in last Saturday’s 2-1 home win over Boston United in the league but he is expected to be fit.

“Alex will be fine - he came off as a precaution,” added the Avenue manager.

“It was a tough game against Boston and Alex is only just back from injury. I don’t think Jamie Jackson will be ready or Adam Clayton but everyone else apart from Ross (Daly who has yet to feature this term after a hip operation in the close season) should be okay.

“I thought some of the lads played exceptionally well against Boston and I’m glad Tom (Greaves) got on for his 200th appearance for the club. I thought Jordan (Deacey the manager’s son and midfield lynchpin) was treading a fine line though after getting booked.

“I know he likes to get stuck in and that can be tricky once you’ve got a yellow card but he is so influential that we didn’t want to take him off.”

Greaves made his landmark appearance after being an unused substitute in the Curzon Ashton cup tie and was presented with a memento to mark the occasion by the club after last Saturday’s game.
