Kyel Reid wants to make sure life at Valley Parade stays perfect by beating fellow high-flyers Port Vale tomorrow.

Fourth-placed City have kicked off the league campaign with four home wins as well as Tuesday’s dramatic comeback success over Burton in the Capital One Cup.

The 100 per cent record faces its biggest threat with the visit of Vale, who are currently goal difference ahead of their hosts in second spot.

But winger Reid reckons they can be sent away empty-handed just like all the others.

He said: “There’s no better feeling than winning and we’re really enjoying the way it’s going. We want that to continue.

“This is our home turf and we’re proud of the record here. We feel that nobody should be able to come here and take any points away from us without a real fight.

“It’s such a brilliant feeling to be in the top half of the table after last season. The gaffer has brought in some decent players and the team have gelled together and knuckled down since the trip to Ireland.

“We’re happy with our form and we all just want to keep that run going.”

Reid was outstanding in the cup triumph as City roared back from two goals down to win 3-2 in extra-time. Coming on after an hour, the winger ran the Burton defenders ragged.

He said: “My confidence kept growing every time I got the ball and had the beating of the full back. It just made me want to get on it more and more.

“Sometimes it can be difficult coming on as a sub and picking up the tempo of the game straight away. But I felt fresh from the first touch.

“I really enjoyed it and just hope I can keep some consistency going.

“The atmosphere on Tuesday night was unbelievable. Hearing the fans shout and cheering the boys on was just brilliant.

“There’s no doubt once you’ve got the backing of that support it makes you try even harder to do well. We were 2-0 down and everyone was still going, so I knew we could come back and win.”

Phil Parkinson was impressed with Reid’s wing wizardry and will demand more of the same.

He said: “Reidy was exceptional when he came on the other night. I’ve just got to keep reminding him what he needs to do to play well.

“But he did well at Oxford, got his goal at home against Morecambe, which was important for him, and looks to be back to his best.

“It’s great to be at home again. Confidence is high and we’re meeting a team who’ve had a really good start.”

While City made six changes in midweek, Micky Adams has incredibly named the same side for Vale’s last nine games.

Parkinson said: “Micky’s saying he might make some changes and we’ll have to wait and see. But to go that many games without a change through injury is unusual.

“Torquay did that last year with the same back four and benefited from that. If you can do that, it’s great.

“We’ve chosen to freshen things up when we can and that’s worked for us. It depends on the balance of your squad.

“We’re going to have to push ourselves mentally and physically. Port Vale work very hard for each other and are very committed, like we are. We’ve got to make sure we match that.

“I think it will be a very entertaining game between two evenly-matched teams. They play in quite an expansive way and Micky has got players, like us, who are full of confidence.

“You don’t score the number of goals they have without having an attacking threat.”

Reid is among several City players expected to return – including Luke Oliver , who has fully recovered from the shoulder knock he took at Oxford.

The big defender was named on the bench on Tuesday but was not called upon, although Parkinson said: “He could have played.

“It was just that Dava (Andrew Davies) had missed the Watford game, Rory McArdle missed Accrington and we felt Stephen Darby needed to play.

“Olly needed a break more than the other two and it won’t have done him any harm to recharge his batteries.”
