New Bradford Amateur champion Will Whiteoak suffered play-off heartache in the Yorkshire Amateur Champion-ship at Lindrick today.

The Bingley St Ives player lost at the fourth extra hole in the second round of the matchplay stages to an eagle from Moortown’s Dave Houlding.

Whiteoak, who had birdied the hole, had earlier scraped through a first-round play-off on the third extra hole to defeat Andy Wiltshire (Pontefract).

The Haworth 18-year-old had qualified from the strokeplay stage in joint first place after a second round 69.

Otley’s Jack Kelley made it through to tomorrow's quarter-final against York’s Julian Taylor after overcoming James Walker (The Oaks) 2&1.

There were second-round exits for Cleckheaton’s Nigel Colbeck (4&2 against Bedale’s Daniel Brown) and Ilkley’s Jack Lampkin (4&2 against Moor Allerton’s Joe Heraty).

Whiteoak and Colbeck are in the Bradford side to face Teesside at Bingley St Ives on Sunday, along with Ben Mountain and Ben Cheetham, who both made the first round at Lindrick before bowing out.
