Bradford Park Avenue will have a new away kit for the 2012-13 season in the Blue Square Bet North Division to tie in with a 150-year anniversary.

The club are also hoping to sign up a new sponsor for the strip.

Chief executive Bob Blackburn said: “A new shirt has been introduced to mark a 150th anniversary that we share with the Bulls.

“It is not Avenue’s 150th but I’m reliably informed that the original club that both Bradford Northern and Park Avenue sprung from is 150 years old."

Bradford FC was formed in 1863 and played rugby before changing to play football in 1907 when Park Avenue and Bradford Northern came into existence.

Blackburn added: “Our white kit with the green stripes will be the same and Bakes & Lord will continue to be the club’s main partner and have their name on it.

“We owe them big time – they have been very good with the club for a number of years now.

“The new strip being introduced is a red, amber and black kit and that is the one we hope to have a new sponsor on.

“(Finance director) Kevin Hainsworth has been talking to 2co Energy for a while and hopefully a deal is very close to being signed and sealed.”

Avenue’s manager John Deacey has already begun shaping his squad for the new campaign following last season’s promotion.

He has landed Danny Holland and Aaron Hardy from rivals FC Halifax Town, plus Jamie Jackson from Worksop Town.

The boss is looking to sign three more players and the squad could be boosted by the return of a crowd favourite.

Blackburn said: “Amjad Iqbal is back in training and wants to be involved in the pre-season.

“He is a fantastic player. When he broke his leg last season – in the same place as the year before – that was the time we began to struggle.

“James Knowles and James Riley were outstanding and Adam Clayton did a superb job when he stepped in to cover but they don’t affect the game like Amjad does.

“In any case, we need four centre halves this season because we have moved into a more competitive league and it will be very demanding on the squad.

“John is looking to increase competition for places in all areas and that is why the new signings have come in.

“We are a side that likes to play football and we hope that will be in our favour.

“We feel our style will suit the Conference North. We hope to ruffle a few feathers but it’s too early to tell – we are not shouting from the rooftops at this stage.

“John is a very good manager and a very down to earth one. He is really grounded and won’t get carried away with false expectation.”
