Danny McGuire puts Bradford Bulls to sword in Magic Weekend showdown

Bradford Bulls 22, Leeds Rhinos 37

Danny McGuire's five-try haul gave Leeds the derby spoils at a sun-drenched Etihad Stadium to leave the Bulls with just one Magic Weekend victory in six attempts.

The mercurial playmaker grabbed a first-half-trick and struck twice in decisive fashion after the break as the Rhinos avenged their Good Friday defeat at Odsal.

An exhilarating opening 40 minutes saw McGuire put Leeds ahead inside the second minute but Elliott Whitehead touched down to level the scores and Ben Jeffries' try put Bradford 12-6 ahead.

Former Rhinos hooker Matt Diskin then grounded a loose ball to stretch the Bulls' lead but McGuire collected a forward-looking pass from Brent Webb to score his second and then powered clear after excellent work from Rob Burrow.

The scores were tied at 18-18 at half-time but McGuire was on hand to score again after the break, collecting a pass from Kevin Sinfield, who landed six conversions and a drop-goal, to scamper clear once more.

The Bulls, who lost influential prop Craig Kopczak to injury inside the opening minute and later saw Diskin replaced, fought gamely throughout and had an appeal for a try waved away by video referee Steve Ganson in the final quarter after Karl Pryce went over in the left corner.

Indeed, they battered the Rhinos' line for long periods of the second half but could not make it pay and were punished when Carl Ablett added another try for Leeds before McGuire grabbed his fifth.

Elliot Kear showed impressive strength to burrow over in the closing stages but it was too little too late.

All that bulls pressure without reward. Poor kicking and final decision making costly. Conceding 13 points in 4mins is poor aswell. Thought we were gonna run away with the game when went 18-6 ahead but oh well. 2 points in next match please

A good performance from the Bulls. I think a decent half-back could have changed the fortunes of the Bulls today. Next monday can't come soon enough !!

Ouch. losing Kopczak early was massive, but thought our halves, especially Luke Gale, had a poor 2nd half. we got near the line plenty but came up with nothing. Got to be better than that.

It was a sterling performance by the forwards but we lacked invention in the halves. Jeffries went missing in the second-half and Gale, well, he never started. Let's hope it's a one-off for him. I would have liked to have seen Kearney move up to stand-off with Jeffries at scrum-half and Kear to full-back. Once again, Pryce did not play to his size. Leeds were clinical when they had a chance and we weren't. The pack held up but the halves were not good enough to take advantage. Big Tom was excellent today and Kear's try shows what passion he has. Must win game against Castleford, next Monday.

There seemed to be no invention in the second half but the Leeds defence was very good.
They took their chances, we didn't.
Thought Lulia and Purtell broke through a few tackles and we seemed to make good metres with the forwards. Such a shame that Jeffries and Gale were so poor.
Why was Walker on the bench over Addy?

Bad start but turned in some great defence on the back of it, then the wheels fell off don't quite know how we turned into a different team.Passing went out the window and silly offloads took over.
We were woeful at times with absolutely no penetration.
Battering away for long periods with nothing to show, the only way we could score was through a Leeds mistake or an Individual effort. Diskins try was deffo a knock on but we'll have it.
Some weird decisions from Thiery but What do you expect?
Time up for Walker I think, thought he was worth this extra year but honesly I think the lad needs to call it a day. I really thought the overseas players would shine today with the favourable conditions but Apart from Manase's HUGE Effort the rest were very ordinary, fair do's with the injuries they all had to put a big effort in but some put a bigger effort in than others and some went missing at crucial times. I believe Jeffries is better for us this time round and again showed his worth especially in the first half.

Fairly easy win for us in the end.
You could tell we only played that at 80%, what with having to the pies this BM told the lads not to go hell for leather.
Mildly entertaining though, and thought Danny did well with his tries.
Nice to mingle with a few of your fans without being asked for cash, so that was a pleasant surprise.
Not quite the 20 point win I had forecast earlier in the week, but near enough.

Good post Dicky, I think the reason they were more clinical was due to Pace which we still seem to be lacking.
I think Kearney either looks not fit or not interested. Agree about Kear, what desire to score his try.

It was a nice forward pass from Webb to McGuire for the second Leeds try. Shame the officials missed that one.

Also, the forward pass try in the Hull KR v Hull FC match has cost us.

Hull KR's next four games are Warrington, Huddersfield, Catalans and Saints.

Our next four are Castleford, Saints, Wakefield and Wigan. We have the easier fixtures.

You might pick up a win against Cas, can't see you doing any better than that.
HKR might beat stains, so that's the status quo maintained.

Thought our last play options were very poor. Forwards did ok to say we lost Koppy early doors. Our halves looked clueless at times. Thought Purtell played well. Leeds were far more clinical with the chances they had. All in all pretty disappointing.

Shelfrhino you do talk rubbish fellow. You have a really hard few games coming up so nevermind HKR you should worry about your next few fixtures fellow. And as for today's game there was alot of unusual decisions AGAIN against us like your crossing which went un punished and you went on to score, another was Sinfield defused a bomb and he jumped from within the field of play and was stooped in his own try area to be given a tap on the 20 when Leeds should have dropped out and from that went the length of the field to score another try and last of all the forward pass that EVERYONE saw but the french toerag and his cronies with the flags. So please worry how the league are going to rescue your mob AGAIN in the next few weeks kid.

don't know what anybody else thinks but we just start getting people back and now more injuries koppy will be missed & heath should be our main hooker & try o'brien aswell
got to give manase a good contract having great season for us him.

Strange one that then, it was only a few weeks ago when the World Champions visited your dump that all the bucket shakers were out in force, begging for money.
What's happened since? Have all you cash problems gone away?
It must be true that all your best players have been sold, and are only now playing for you on an on-loan basis.
