Mick Potter is convinced the Magic Weekend in Manchester will prove a resounding success as the Bulls go in search of a derby double over Leeds.

Potter’s men beat the Rhinos in stirring fashion at Odsal on Good Friday and are now eyeing another scalp over their sworn enemies at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.

After previous Magic Weekends in Cardiff and Edinburgh, Potter reckons taking the event to the game’s heartlands is a smart move as Bradford seek their first Magic Weekend victory over Leeds.

“I think the Etihad Stadium could be a really good one for rugby league,” he said.

“Manchester is a fantastic city to go out in.

“It’s not necessarily a rugby league town but there will certainly be a lot of rugby league people there this weekend.

“What’s fantastic about our game is that the fans mix.

“One fan could be in a Bulls jumper and another in a Leeds jumper but they will have a good bit of banter, a beer together and they will enjoy going to watch the match.

“They will be parochial towards their team and that will be the end of it.

“I think that's something for our game to cherish and the banter between fans of opposing clubs is great.”

Potter is looking forward to visiting the home of the newly-crowned Barclays Premier League champions.

“It’s a fantastic stadium from what I hear,” he added.

“I’m not really into soccer but I played a bit when I was a kid and enjoyed it.

“I must admit, I flicked on the final game of the Premier League season when Manchester City beat QPR to win the title.

“It was an exciting finish and I think a finish like that is a dream come true for any sports fan and governing body.

“If you think that’s how your season could end, with goals being scored in different games, it makes for a great finale.”

Potter is boosted by the availability of John Bateman after suspension for Sunday’s derby clash and is hoping that Brett Kearney (ankle) and Adrian Purtell (hamstring) are passed fit.
