City’s kitman will leave the car at home to walk to the last game of the season – from Lincoln.

Graham Duckworth plans to cover the 73.5 miles for the Sincil Bank dug-out to the one at Valley Parade in time for the clash with League Two champions Swindon.

He will leave Lincoln at 2pm on Friday with the aim of walking on to the City pitch 24 hours later.

The former soldier is familiar with the route after covering it the other way round on New Year’s Eve 2010.

That raised nearly £12,000 for the Bradford Burns Unit and Duckworth is hopeful of another £10,000 windfall for the cause closest to the club’s heart.

He said: “We haven’t set a target this year but there’s a bucket collection at the ground as well. Every penny helps.

“It’s a hard walk but I thought we’d do the return journey to finish in front of the City fans.

“But it is more difficult coming this way from Lincoln. The last part is the worst because Bradford is so hilly.

“There’s no straight to finish on – it’s all uphill. But I’m banking on the fact I’ve done it before so it’s in my head.

“As long as you keep up the normal walking pace, you’ll do it.”

Duckworth also organised a trek over the Three Peaks last summer. But he admits the walking boots will be hung up after Saturday.

He said: “This is definitely the last one I’m ever going to do. I’m 55 now, so I’m no spring chicken.

“I’m still arranging the annual Three Peaks walk again but I won’t be taking part in that. It’s so close to this one and it will take me four or five weeks to recover.”

He will be joined by his son Daniel, fans Charlotte Usher and Andrea Brown and City Gent mascot Lenny Berry.
