Bradford City women travel to Northern Combination champions Newcastle United this weekend needing a victory to keep alive their hopes of clinching the runners-up spot.

It is a big ask for Steve Winterburn’s side, who will have to lift themselves up after Thursday’s County Cup final defeat at the hands of a strong Leeds United side.

FA Premier Leaguers Leeds proved too strong for City with a 4-0 win.

City warmed up for the final with a comfortable 4-1 league win over Salford that kept them in third spot, two points behind Sheffield Wednesday, thanks to two-goal Charlotte Stuart, an own goal, and one from leading scorer Caroline Omboyi that took her season’s tally to 16.

City must now beat Newcastle and Stockport and hope Wednesday slip up at Huddersfield or against Newcastle in their final game.

Guiseley, battling to avoid relegation from the North East Regional Premier division, produced a creditable display in their 2-0 defeat at home to leaders Hull City and could lift themselves out of the bottom two if they can beat fellow strugglers Sheffield Unity Community.

In the West Riding League Premier Division, Keighley Oaks will take the title if they can secure all three points at Bradford Park Avenue.
