Bradford City’s women tackle Cheadle Heath at Thackley on Sunday looking to repeat their opening-day 4-0 win in Cheshire and maintain their promotion push.

A Kirsty Russell hat-trick helped City to a 5-1 victory over neighbours Huddersfield Town that lifted them up to second in the Northern Combination table, although they still have ten points to catch up on leaders Newcastle United and only two games in hand.

The Huddersfield game saw City at their best in spells and while Russell’s goals took her season’s tally into double figures, Kerrie Zserdicky kept up her own recent scoring run and Bridie Hannon hit the other.

But there was disappointment for the City A team in their final North East Regional League Division One (South) fixture.

After producing an outstanding display at title favourites Lepton, they eventually lost 3-2 despite leading for much of the game.

In the same division there was a 4-1 win for Kirklees at Ossett Albion but Rothwell were beaten 2-1 at Wetherby.

Guiseley went down 5-3 at relegation rivals Peterlee in the Premier Division, while Bradford Park Avenue were surprisingly beaten 3-2 by bottom club Hemsworth Miners Welfare in the West Riding County League Premier Division. Jade Nelson and captain Sarah Huby scored Avenue’s replies.

Leaders Keighley Oaks have a chance to put distance between themselves and closest rivals Harrogate Railway when they travel to in-form third-placed side Brighouse, who were 6-3 winners at Leeds Medics and Dentists in their last game.
