Local football fans are in for a holiday treat with the Northern Counties East(er) groundhop weekend.

The specially-designed event is for lovers of non-league football who like to visit as many grounds as possible.

The ground-hop weekend is not a new phenomenon but it is the first time the organisers have selected the NCE League.

With the Bradford area having five representatives in the league structure, it is of particular interest locally on Good Friday.

Fixtures have been staggered over three days, kick-off times altered and clubs have been asked to vary their standard hot-dogs, burgers and Bovril.

The organisers have sold tickets for a package and have based themselves in Wakefield for the spectators’ marathon.

Some people will watch nine games in total and stay at a hotel in the town while travelling to all the games via coach.

Supporters can still pay as normal on the gate and select which games they want to see.

The event gets underway on Thursday when Yorkshire Amateur host Hemsworth for a Division One fixture but it gets more local the day after.

Eccleshill United get the day started with a 10.45am kick-off at home to Dinnington Town in Division One.

Three Premier Division fixtures follow on the same day, with Thackley hosting Long Eaton United at 1.45pm, Liversedge at home to Arnold Town kicking off at 4.45pm and ends with the evening kick-off at Clay-born where Sedge take on Barton Town Old Boys.

There are another four games staggered over Saturday before fixtures in both divisions on the Bank Holiday Monday revert to 3pm starts.

The organisers have suggested that Eccleshill serve traditional breakfast fare, Thackley do lunch, Sedge do afternoon tea and Brighouse cater for the evening meal menu.

But no doubt supporters will still be able to purchase their traditional pie and peas, accompanied by the traditional Bovril of course!
