Kyel Reid will be allowed to put family before football on Saturday.
His girlfriend is due to give birth to their first child over the weekend – and City will give the winger permission to pull out of the Gillingham game if it clashes.
Reid is one of Phil Parkinson’s key attacking weapons with his pace and trickery on the left flank.
But the Bantams boss will not stand in his way from getting to hospital should the call suddenly come.
Parkinson said: “Once his girlfriend goes into labour, Reidy will be at her bedside.
“The bottom line is that Reidy wants to play but the most important thing is the birth of his baby.
“If that does happen, then he’ll be there.”
Reid, Parkinson’s first signing, missed five games after injuring his hamstring on Boxing Day. City won only one of those against Shrewsbury.
