Simon Ramsden insists it’s time that City puff their chests out and show they are fit to wear the shirt.

The Bantams kick off a home double header tomorrow against Gillingham with only four points separating them from the bottom.

It is a critical phase in the battle for League Two safety and defender Ramsden believes they must deliver a performance for Valley Parade to be proud of.

The experienced right back is one of the clutch of players out of contract in the summer but he admits that any talk of next season must go out of the window until City’s survival is certain.

Ramsden said: “A club our size can’t keep saying that we shouldn’t be in this position.

“We need to get out there and do ourselves justice. We know we’ve got the players capable of doing that.

“We need to show what it means to wear this Bradford shirt and try to get ourselves out of the situation that we are in.

“With the players we’ve got in this squad, we should be a lot higher.

“We were nowhere near good enough (at Aldershot) on Saturday from one to 11. Tuesday was just so frustrating because we were all over Crewe second half but the ball wouldn’t go in. It’s something we need to address very quickly. We tend to do well against the better teams and hopefully we can get the points on the board.”

Citys loss at Crewe was only the tenth game Ramsden has started this season and his presence will be a key factor in the run-in.

After another season blighted by injury and setbacks, he wants to play a full part.

“Everything feels fine with me but I just take each day as it comes at the minute. I really want to try and stay fit and be part of all the remaining games.

“The last injury just summed it up for me. I had the spell playing games and was going great but then I got a broken toe through no fault of my own.

“We know how important these games coming up are for the club. As one of the senior pros I’m desperate to be out there for every one.

“I want to do what I can to help us get some points and move away from trouble.”

A solid run to the end of the campaign would also boost Ramsden’s own chances of staying at Valley Parade. He has made just 15 appearances since signing a two-year deal under Peter Taylor in May 2010.

He added: “I think about it every day. I’ve got my first child on the way in June and it’s a worrying time, especially with me not playing so many games again this season.

“But you’ve got to put that to the back of your mind for now. When I get out there on the pitch, I’ve got to show the commitment and desire to do well.

“I’m glad to be back playing again and at least I feel I can do something about it. But first and foremost, the club’s safety is the most important issue, not contracts.

“We’ll worry about that in the summer. It’s about getting the club secure now.”
