Bradford Salem are hoping that they can take the feel-good factor from the official opening of their floodlights on Wednesday night.

A crowd of 600 watched a Salem Invitation XV defeat a Keighley Invitation XV 24-14 in an over-35s game that also raised about £3,400 for severely injured Keighley under-17 player Nathan Cubitt.

Salem’s first-team manager Neil Klenk said: “It was a proper game of rugby and hopefully our first-team squad, who were watching, were thinking if players in their late 30s, and even 40s and 50s, can show that level of skill and commitment then why can’t we do the same for 80 minutes on a Saturday?

“There was definitely a feel-good factor but after a couple of setbacks recently, we can’t afford to lose any more matches if we are to be promoted from SSE Yorkshire Division Two.”

Salem were beaten 29-18 at home by Selby last weekend, and Klenk added: “We need to be mentally right as we know that Bob Hood will have his visiting Yarnbury side properly wound up on Saturday.”
