Guiseley’s much-delayed FA Trophy third-round tie should finally take place on Tuesday – but it could yet lead to problems further down the line.

The Lions have been thwarted on three occasions as they attempt to travel to take on Blue Square Premier Division outfit Cambridge United.

The continual moving of the date has meant that Guiseley have had to shelve two league fixtures, which is not ideal for a club chasing the promotion that would see them join Cambridge in the top flight.

Club secretary Adrian Towers said: “At the moment the situation isn’t too bad as we have played more of our league games at this stage of the season than we had last year.

“But the net result of three failed attempts to play Cambridge is that we now have Blue Square North games against Harrogate Town and FC Halifax Town to rearrange.

“As I say, we are no worse off than last year but we would have problems if any more games are called off. If we win against Cambridge and progress it will be even worse. If we win the game after that we would be in the semi-finals and they are over two legs.

“I suppose it is like last year when we did well in the cups and reached the play-offs in the league. You become a victim of your own success.

“But that is for us administrators to worry about so the players and coaching staff can, hopefully, continue to do the club proud and keep the profile of Guiseley as high as possible.”
