North Ferriby United 2 Bradford Park Avenue 1

Avenue slumped out of the Doodson Sports Cup quarter-finals tonight as they ended with nine men against Evo-Stik Premier Division rivals North Ferriby.

Bradford actually took the lead but the home side were awarded three penalties and won it after netting two of them.

It was certainly a cup tie full of incident.

The early signs were good for Avenue and they broke the deadlock in the 12th minute with a well-taken goal. Skipper Rob O’Brien finished a forward surge with a square pass to Richard Marshall and the striker did the rest with a lob from ten yards.

Ferriby were awarded their first spot-kick minutes later when Ross Daly fouled striker Gary Bradshaw. Nathan Peat strode up to spot the ball but fired over.

However, on the half hour, a Bradshaw free-kick was handled in the area by Adam Clayton and Russell Fry made no mistake.

Eleven minutes from time, when a foul by Clayton on Bradshaw earned the Avenue man a red card, Fry netted his second spot-kick of the night.

O’Brien, who had picked up a yellow card in the 70th minute, was cautioned again in the 80th to receive his own marching orders.
