Farsley manager Neil Parsley enjoyed the cut and thrust of the derby fixture at home to Garforth Town on Bank Holiday Monday – but not the result.

Parsley’s men were above their Leeds neighbours in Evo-Stik Division One North but it was the away side that grabbed all the points in a 3-2 win.

Third-placed Farsley had won eight of their previous nine league games and Parsley said: “I could talk about my players and a couple of key injuries but I wouldn’t want to take anything away from the Garforth lads and their management team because they came here and won.

“I certainly think the derby atmosphere added an edge to the game and it had all the spice of a local clash with tackles flying in and effort in bundles all over the pitch.

“On the whole it was a good game that never boiled over.

“We will have to swallow the bitter pill of defeat and get on with it. Move on to the next game.”

It certainly had the flavour of a local derby as two of Garforth’s scorers were Matt Dempsey and Paul Walker.

Dempsey began his career at Eccleshill United before going on to captain Sheffield United’s reserve side and then joining Glen Hoddle’s Academy in Spain.

Walker served Liversedge well in two spells between a long stint with Nicky Law’s Buxton.

Trying to prevent Farsley scoring was goalkeeper Ben Higginson.

The No 1 started out at Thackley and would still have been at Dennyfield had Bradford City not released Matt Convey.

Throstle Nest was like a who’s who of the area’s talent last Monday.
