City aim to leave Mr Bond shaken and stirred with a view to an FA Cup giant-killing at Watford tomorrow.

With Scott Loach suspended for the visit of his former loan club, the Hornets will throw 18-year-old Jonathan Bond in goal for his senior debut.

The Wales under-19 international’s only previous experience was the last eight minutes at Portsmouth on Monday after Loach was harshly sent off for handling outside the box.

The 18-year-old, who played four games on loan at Forest Green in November, is highly rated by the Championship club.

But there are sure to be a few nerves for Bond – and Lee Bullock believes City’s big men can scare the Living Daylights out of him.

He said: “We need to stick a few high balls under his crossbar and see how he reacts to James Hanson, Luke Oliver and Andy Davies running at him.

“The third round of the FA Cup is a big occasion and there’s going to be pressure on him. It’s not nice to see a young lad make a few mistakes but we’ve got to take the opportunity.

“If we can get at him and he drops one or two, then it will give us a chance.”

Bullock marked his fourth anniversary with City on New Year’s Day and is one of the few survivors from Loach’s successful spell at Valley Parade under Stuart McCall.

“He was only a young lad when he came to us but you could see he had real potential. He’s now one of the group of keepers looking at breaking into the international team in a few years’ time.

“It was a great time for him up here and credit to the club for scouting him. I’m sure he’s gutted not to be playing but we’re not complaining if it helps us.”

The experienced midfielder is back in the squad after four months out with a torn thigh muscle. And after two late appearances from the bench, he is buzzing at the thought of an FA Cup day out.

“I was driving back to the north-east with the fitness coach (Nick Allamby) after we’d lost on Monday and he was talking about raising the lads’ spirits. I said you don’t need to for the FA Cup.

“Everyone’s excited about playing. It doesn’t matter how old you are.

“I can’t wait to play in the third round and I know the younger lads will be desperate to go out there and play. There’s something about this competition that gets the juices flowing.”

Bullock has only reached the fourth round once in his career and that was ten years ago in the York side beaten at home by Fulham. But he feels City are capable of emulating that progress on recent form.

“If we play like we did against Shrewsbury and Crewe and in the first half the other day, then we can give them a run for their money.

“They will probably underestimate us a little bit but there are always a few upsets in the third round. Look through the games tomorrow and they’ll probably be five or six surprise results – there’s no reason why we can’t be one of them.”
