City’s against-the-odds victory at Huddersfield in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy has earned them the Performance of the Round award.

The Bantams twice took the lead at the Galpharm Stadium on the way to a 2-2 draw, before holding their nerve to go through 4-3 on penalties.

This earned Phil Parkinson’s men a welcome piece of silverware ahead of their area quarter-final tie against Sheffield United.

Parkinson said: “It is a great achievement for the lads to win such an award. It is always nice when your performances are acknowledged in ways like this.

“The match at Huddersfield was a great night for the football club. The fans gave us tremendous backing and we were glad we could reward their support with a positive result.

“The players put in a great performance to beat a very good Huddersfield side – you only have to look at their League One record to see how good they can be.

“They were a credit to themselves and the football club and we are all looking forward to the next round now.”

Johnstone’s Paint Trophy sponsorship manager Teresa Hardwick admitted that City have not had it easy in this season’s competition.

“As if a game against Sheffield Wednesday in round one wasn’t enough, they were then paired against last season’s area finalists Huddersfield,” she said.

“They more than deserved this award for their spirit and endeavour in beating a fantastic Huddersfield side, who just happen to be their local neighbours.

“It will be great to give them something to remember their performance by ahead of another unenviable game in the next round, this time against Sheffield United.”

City fans also benefit from the award as it triggers a 40 per cent discount off assorted products.

The Team of the Round giveaway is one of a series of incentives on offer for supporters this season as part of the trophy’s Just Rewards initiative.

All fans have to do to claim their discounts is visit www.johnstonespainttrophy.com and download a Just Rewards voucher book, before redeeming the appropriate coupon at assorted stores.
