New boss Paul Quinn was not too disheartened when his side lost their grip on the leadership of the Baris NCE League Premier Division last week.

To coin that familiar phrase, he knows it is a marathon not a sprint. The hard yards are yet to come.

Quinn, whose father Gerry managed neighbours Liversedge among others, has only been in charge a month but led the club to the summit before last Saturday’s 2-2 home draw with Nostell MW dropped them to third.

Quinn said: “We remain optimistic and upbeat so it has not put a dampener on our long-term aims or progress. It is not the be all and end all being top, not at this stage of the season.

“When you are leading it brings a different context.

“When teams take on the top side they find that bit extra because they want to be the ones who beat the leaders. The opposition have that extra spring in their step and are prepared to go the extra mile. I would be quite happy if we went under the radar a bit.”

Quinn has revamped the squad in his time in charge, with some new faces arriving at the Dual Seal Stadium.

One of them is former Bradford Park Avenue forward Danny Facey.

Quinn said: “Danny did well against Nostell. I was pleased with his signing because he got in touch with us.

“He was with Park Avenue but drifted into local football and he will only improve in fitness over the next month.

“In general things are going well and the squad is coming together, the side is settling down.

“We are moving in the right direction but there is still a lot of work to do. Last week’s home draw taught us that.”
