Bradford City sign Dutch defender

Defender Marcel Seip has joined City on a three-month contract.

The 29-year-old Dutchman, who has been training with the club, left Plymouth in the summer. He has also had loan spells at Sheffield United, Blackpool and Charlton.

Seip, a right back who can also play centre half, was registered in time to be included in the squad for the Torquay game.

This does seem very bizarre. Earlier this week we stopped Burns from leaving on loan, but then go out and sign another defender. He is predominantly a right-back, but can play at centre-half. So where is he likely to play? Surely we are not thinking of dropping Moore?
.
This player also has a chequered career and was twice involved in major bust-ups with his Plymouth manager before finally joining Blackpool on loan.
.
He only played 20 times last season before being released by Plymouth in the summer and obviously hasn't found a club until now. Who has he been training with? Will he be match fit or is this another that is coming to us to help regain that match-fitness?

What the hell is going on? This is becoming farcical. As I've said many times, our squad is already that big, the majority are being paid to exercise during the week and sit in the stand on a Saturday.

The £300K we got for George won't cover all these wages. It's time Parkinson was told that enough is enough and he has to settle for what he's got.

Been training with us for a couple of weeks I think. So although not match fit won't be lead legged either. Things do seem odd and it gets harder to say trust em but trust em we must, let's not let the positivity from Tuesday go to waste.

He has been training with us, which to me suggests PP has seen enough to give him a three nonth contract. Moore has played exceptionally well given his age and experience, but what real cover do we have? I can't see anything odd about it at all. Football is all about taking chances, and that's what we are doing. I would be suprised to see ramsden return to anything near is full fitness for some time, and defensively we are weak. Good luck to the lad, i know absolutally nothing about him, and if he's anything like my old hero Marco Sass then bring him on!

The third worst team in the Football League and we've got a squad size to rival a Premiership club.

As I've said before, I watch them train and there are so many players hanging around that Rawdon Meadows won't be big enough at this rate.

The shoestring clubs are all above us in this Division and managers like John Coleman at Accrington manage to make silk purses out of sows ears. Look at Wimbledon. Not one of their players names recognisable, but better than us in most departments. That's the art of good management.

What is the point in nurturing nuggets like George Green only to fritter the transfer money on signing after signing?

We're going to end up with a squad made up of mainly dissatisfied players.

I know the reasons why we've had to sell Cleverly, Wisdom, Delph, Green etc, but what have we show for it? Journeymen and old pals signings and ....the third worst team in the whole league.

I wonder who's being lined up for next week's signing?

We have Mitchell who can play right back, Burns is highly rated, O'B has operated there in emergency and untill we are told different we have Rambo on his way back.

Very very strange use of finances. Another short term loan which even if we play them all and they start to gel we will either have to rebuild again in a few months time or attempt to re-sign.

Moore is a terrific prospect and has done little wrong. He's still raw but i enjoy watching him play.

The lads who came in against huddersfield worked their socks off and thats the desire we need to see from PP's signings or he needs to re-evaluate his policy and build a TEAM. We all want us to start winning games but if we aren't then i'd rather see a group of lads playing for the club than coming here to get fit or get their names out there to others.

It's a huge squad now and all the 'soundbites from the board in the summer have gone out the window. Goodness knows what the thinking is behind this. For me its been too much since Parkinson came on board and i hope for his sake as much as ours he knows what he's doing. The board are sanctioning this activity and as i've stated a few times we have begun the season again in effect.

Fair enough, i need to think more before i post. Could he be replacing Branston? I read that he's also a centre back. We have too big a squad for sure, and that can only unsettle the players giving their all, who are trying to keep in the side, like the JPT players who where meant to be our first choice before Parkinson arrived. Whatever the reasons for this signing, 3 points is a must tomorrow.

I for one fail to see why this is a bad move! We are leaking goals every week, and have done all season. It's clear that the midfield is now saturated with players, were strong ish up front, the main area of weakness is at centre half! If this lad comes in and performs better than Oliver or Branston, then I'm all for it!

You don't half get some numpties expressing their views on here.

It doesn't help, when Chief Numpty, reports it as a Right Back signing on.

When I saw the headline of Seip - the commanding Dutch Centre Half, who's played at the highest level in Holland and as a Solid Central Defender, mostly in the Championship for the past five years - I had to laugh as I couldn't quite believe my eyes.

What a signing!

These idiots who keep on crying the money card and venting their frustration that the new manager is adding to the squad beggars belief.

It's like trying to make a 2 year old child understand the laws of gravity but yet, they're fully grown men, that have been watching football their whole lives and they're winging that we're spending money on quality players.

One idiot suggested that things were becoming farcical because our squad was tooooooo big.

Come on, for a start, it wasn't PP who signed most of the summer arrivals, secondly, a lot, if not half of the summer incomers were purely for the development squad - not 1st team, part of an ingenious long term plan which will be a success - sorry if I'm losing you with these words over three letters long.

Then you've got the new manager bringing in players that he see's fit enough to take us up but they're all Championship quality like Duke, Fagan, Reid, Devitt, Davies and now Seip - so how on earth can ANYONE find fault with that?

Add to that, Seip is a Centre Defender who can play at RB, so he hasn't been brought in as cover for Moore and/or Rambo - he's been brought in to form a Championship pairing in Defence alongside former player of the year for Southampton in the Championship who then sold for millions to Stoke - Davies!

At the start of the season we had a better squad than last year but that wasn't saying much, however, it was a very, very young and inexperienced squad - one for the future maybe but certainly not one that has been producing, not by a long shot and until Parky came in, we didn't see a performance - the Leeds match aside.

Since then, there's been a few scintillating games where we've looked class except for defending in which we've thrown away 3 points against Port Vale, Bristol Rovers, Crawley, Wimbledon and Burton all down to Defensive frailties and now that PP has acted to shore up the defence with Davies, although he probably hasn't cost owt and now Seip, possibly with some of the new money which has come into the club via Green - there's moaning and groaning within the City boards.

Absolutely disgraceful - a shameful act from false supporters, who seemingly thrive in wishing our great club more doom and gloom.

Get a grip, you morons and try to employ a second brain cell to support your club for once!

It is because we support the club we worry - our first team squad is up to

FORTY ONE

players, but only two are goalkeepers, perhaps you would like another two for cover then we could just about field four teams !

In regards to cash to pay for these players, i believe the buying back of the club offices building and car parks has freed up monies on top of the extra cash brought in by the selling of Green, there is also more income being provided by our success in the JPT games.

I'd have thought that our defence was a priority for improvment, which Parkinson seems to be doing, Seip seems like another good addition to the squad. CTID

Well, firstly, I'm a City fan like the rest of the people on here and rather than you trying to isolate me as an outsider attacking all City fans, it's quite the opposite.

It's only a handful of morons like yourself, that I'm venting my frustrations at.

You're possibly one of the two idiots, that left a voicemail on Archie Christie's mobile with ignorant and ill advised comments on how he was harming the club - as reported on the bfb website.

The rest of us, know the value of Christie's work and the value of the DS - of which from the 41 players you refer to, 10 of them belong in there and only 31 of them are actually first teamers but when PP came into the job and identified the reason we are EIGHTY NINTH in the football league was because many of the 23 players (before his 8 signings), weren't good enough to improve our position - so therefore you're implying that he shouldn't try to improve the team (as it was already good enough) and that the 8 (6 Championship) players that he's signed are a waste of time and his objectives to push us up the table should be sidelined as we've already made up the numbers.
Talking sense doesn't necessarily make me an expert out of me though talking lack of it, does make you an idiot.

Personally, I think the squad's more than good enough, it's now just a case of getting results.

Indeed, if we'd had this group of players at the start of the season, I'd expect us to be in the top 7, so we should be more than capable of at worst a mid table finish. I think we are in a totally false position, and I don't even consider relegation a possibility.

I haven't given up on the play offs, but after the start we've had, it's an outside chance, so I'd prefer any funds to be saved for next season, when we can make a concerted promotion push. Perhaps if we go on a bit of run though, then this could be revised in January.

I'm all for positivity, but I fear posters like "Village Bantam", may just go a little over the top. His comments above smack of 'rosetinteditis' and instead of abusing other contributors with names such as "idiots" and "morons", he should actually address the concerns of those fans.
.
As an example, he claims PPs signings are "championship quality". No they aren't. If they were, they wouldn't be scratching around for fitness at a club "eighty-ninth in the football league". Most of these players have simply not been able to get games and certainly not in the Championship.
.
As for Parker reporting the signing as a right-back, I heard the interview on Radio Leeds yesterday afternoon, when PP unveiled the new player. It was HE that described the new signing as "a right-back that CAN operate as a centre-back, thus giving us cover"....!
.
I was happy with the signing from Stoke, as I felt we needed something different to the Oliver and Branston pairing. However, after just a couple of games with Davies and Oliver together, he now (according to you) feels the need to break them up again for his latest signing.
.
As for right-back cover, I thought Rambo has had 2 spells at Lilleshaw to aide his recovery. Is he not due back in the next few weeks? In the meantime, why isn't Hunt the cover, we are paying him a wage afterall? Ok he came off the bench at left-back the other week and was then himself subbed, but he is still an adequate player to cover at right-back.
.
'Village Bantam' goes on to day that Seip has been brought in to form a "championship" defence with Davies. Seip has been training with us and PP has seen enough to reward him with a record busting contract of.....3 months. That takes us up to Christmas, so what then? How long is Davies with us? Isn't it possible he could also go at the same time, leaving us with Branston, Oliver and Williams fighting it out again to get match-fit..!
.
I'm not saying all his points are wrong, but I do strongly believe he needs to be looking at this signing from both sides and not just from his biased perspective.
It was HE that described the new signing as "a right-back that CAN operate as a centre-back, thus giving us cover"....! . Can somebody explain the need to overhaul Jackson & Cooper's defensive set up. The fact are there for all to see under those two BCFC conceded 8 goals in six league games( taking the Morecambe game as their team). One of these goals was also in the last minute when the team was leading 4 - 1. The team was starting to settle with a clean sheet against Sheffield Wednesday.

Since then there have been 5 league games with twelve goals conceded. Whose problems is PP trying to solve.

What BCFC have been crying out for is a striker who can score on a very regular basis. That is possibly where Jackson's squad was lacking in not having an experienced goal scorer, only potential.Have any forward signings since Jackson/Cooper improved this situation. The team knows that if they concede their chances of winning diminish and this must lower confidence however well they are playing.

Agree with a lot of what you are saying. It can't be done but would be interesting to see how many points and goals the current side would have got playing the early season fixtures? 7 goals scored in 6 games under Jackson. Now 8 in 5. There are lies, **** lies and statistics!!

If you look on the BFC website you will see forty players listed under the title
" 1st Team" plus the new signing equals 41 total .
If "many of the other 23 players weren't good enough to improve our position" it will be interesting how many will be sold/allowed to leave or go out on loan when PP has completed his team "upgrade"
I am glad some like the liveley debate on here - if we all held the same views it would be most boring.Just enjoy it for what it is - a vehicle to express our own personal views right or wrong.
Hope we win today, not fussed about a clean sheet or scoring four goals again - just a win please to send the vast majority home with a smile, just like we have managed in all our three cup matches.

Marts, although I understand the point of view you are trying to make, I don't think you should be disguising the facts.
.
The Morecambe match was definitely PPs, NOT Jacko's or Cooper's. If you change this fixture in your above stats, what will the difference be?

Whilst you have some good points regarding the quality been brought in what people are questioning is the fact that these players aren't ours and are short term. We would all be as enthusistic as you IF these were OUR players or at least signed on for the season like Moore.

Your also right about a 'leaky' defence although Duke has been responsible for some of the goals conceded. Even in this instance Duke has played at an higher level therefore perhaps he just needs time to settle in and we have had both the hudds game and a clean sheet on the bounce so perhaps he has.

I also disagree that the signings in the summer were mostly for the development squad. take allok again and you'll find very few players of last season beginning this. So when your calling others names you need to ensure your own argument is flawless.

As for "crying the money card". Its right to be concerned when your Chairman announces that there is NO MONEY left and then sanction 6 loans. Most of these were before the sale of Green so unless the chairman knew this deal was happening then where DID the money come from. One second we're skint then we're spending again (only 2 days after Jacko leaving). So fans are right to question, as if in one years time we hear again the story of possible admin etc and the risking of our club what will be the excuse. The board themselves stated in the summer this loan spending and large squad size strategy was over. Well clearly its not.

Hope thats enough brain cells deployed for your obviously inflated brain;)

Are you sure?

I'm all for positivity and the players signed are in the main of an higher and desired quality. But read my post above and surely the fact that these are mainly loans (short term one's at that) and the picture may not be so rosy.

Paul Jewell was at the game yesterday and in a brief radio interview asked if reid was only on loan. Do you think that we will sign or at least have all their services untill the end of the season? Thers nothing to stop the likes of Jewell to move in. Lets then hope that the one's not even on the bench have the ability, attitude to take over were that to happen.

agree with most of this although Hunt is not good enough to play right back imo.

I'm concerned that the short term loans will then be required again to fulfil the season. e.g. if we go on a run and are near abouts what then? Do we attempt to extend loans with those who we can or get others, or go with the original squad? Apart from the latter its all money and constant 'tinkering required'.

Could the loans money thus far and what will be required again in three months time have been able to buy us a couple of decent signings of our own,?
No consistent strategy from above particularly with the way they were speaking just a few short months ago.
