Two of the background faces at Throstle Nest were thrust into the limelight last weekend as Margaret Lobley and Stuart Brice were made honorary vice- presidents of Farsley AFC.

Both Lobley and Brice have been involved at Throstle Nest for many, many years, putting in lengthy service for Farsley Celtic and still being around for the new club that was formed out of what was left following administration.

Farsley press officer James Grayson said: “John Palmer wanted to show his appreciation for both of them, so he decided to make them vice presidents of the club for life.

“Everybody knows what Margaret has done for the club down the years, and after years as club secretary she is now meeting and greeting the opposition as she handles the half-time refreshments for Farsley’s and the visitors’ directors and hierarchy.

“Stuart can be seen most days at the ground, and he is always doing something. He is out in all weathers marking out the pitch, working on the divots or collecting footballs on match days. Other times he is usually to be found generally sprucing the place up.

“When you think that he comes in from Nottingham to do all that on a voluntary basis, his commitment to the club is unquestionable.

"John (Palmer, the club’s president and a major benefactor for decades) was very keen to do something special to reward them and he was delighted to make them up.”

They were presented with keepsakes to remember the day they were elevated in status at the club following last Saturday’s 6-0 victory over Salford City.

They were handed their mementoes by Bill Geelan from main sponsors Suddards and Davies.
