Bradford City bounced back after two defeats in three games to secure a 2-1 win at home to Liverpool Feds.

The win leaves them in second place in the WFA Northern Combination League, just one point behind leaders Sheffield Wednesday, who were 6-1 winners at Wakefield.

With Wednesday at third-placed South Durham this weekend, a victory for City at home to Stockport would put them back on top – but with only three points separating the first five clubs, this looks like being a tough league to escape.

Kirstie Russell got City off to a great start against Liverpool with a fine 25-yard strike in the 12th minute.

Liverpool hit back to equalise but Russell then added a second in the 38th minute, when she turned in a cross from Caroline Omboyi, and with keeper Melanie Garside-Wight producing another outstanding display maximum points were assured.

Huddersfield Town’s 2-0 win at Stockport keeps them in joint fourth place. They take on pointless Salford on Sunday.

In the North East Regional League Premier Division, Guiseley slumped to their fourth defeat in five games when they were beaten 11-3 at home to leaders Hessle, while in Division One (South) there was still no joy for bottom club Bradford City A, as they went down 5-2 at home to Keepmoat Stadium.
