Michael Flynn column: I always had confidence in the other lads to score their penalties at Huddersfield after I missed mine.

They showed a great nerve to put them away, especially when you think the oldest one after me was 23.

I’m really happy for them all but especially Nialle after being out injured. I thought he did well in the game and worked his socks off against two very strong centre halves.

I don’t want to make any excuses about my own penalty. But when I planted my foot, the ground gave way a little bit and made me slip.

We had a look afterwards and there was a big indentation in the pitch.

It’s just one of those things. But I don’t mind not scoring if the team still win.

It was the first penalty and I had a lot of faith in Dukey. He is a big keeper and if anybody’s got a chance of saving a spot-kick it’s him.

It was a fantastic result for us because Huddersfield had a lot of good players out there. Don’t be fooled, they were going for it.

The Huddersfield fans were doing all they could to put us off during the penalty because they really wanted to win.

I think our team showed the gaffer that there are good players in the squad if we get a few injuries or loss of form and he wants to change things round.

The midfield was different but that didn’t affect the way I play. I’m the one who does the talking and organising and that doesn’t change.

Andrew Davies is an experienced Premier League player but he hadn’t played midfield before. So when he came on, I was talking him through the positional stuff and whether to stay back or push on.

He thanked me for helping him through afterwards but I see that as part of my role, not just doing my own job but talking to the others around me.

Guy was back in the team and the gaffer made him captain again which was no problem. I’ll gladly accept the armband but if he chooses someone else then you won’t see me sulking or throwing the toys out of the pram.
