Nialle Rodney today urged City to use their Hudders-field heroics to energise a push up the league table.

Rodney coolly slotted home the final spot-kick to clinch Tuesday’s unexpected triumph at the Galpharm.

Now the 20-year-old rookie hopes to transfer that winning form into their stuttering League Two campaign.

He said: “We’ve got to be confident and believe in ourselves because we can do it.

“We’ve just shown that against a very good League One team, as we did before against Leeds and Sheffield Wednesday. The most important thing is we take that into the weekend’s game and beat Torquay.

“The spirit in the dressing room is really good at the moment.

“The new gaffer is trying to instil a hunger in us for what he wants to achieve. He wants to be successful and it’s the same for us as players – to be the best that we can be.”

Rodney had no doubts at all about stepping up for the decisive penalty in the shoot-out. In fact, he demanded to take it.

He added: “I said to the other lads straight away that I want to be the fifth one. I think it’s a striker’s thing because we like the glory!”
