Michael Flynn column

I enjoyed being put on the spot for the T&A webchat with supporters this week. It was an impressive turn-out for a Tuesday afternoon and on the whole there were a lot of genuine questions.

If people have got something to ask me and do it in the right way, then I’m always happy to reply. I think I was honest with my answers.

I didn’t make everything out to be a rose garden but I tried to be genuine and hope that I gave supporters a bit of an insight on things they would usually speculate about.

Rumours don’t help anyone and we can all jump to wrong conclusions. If people want to know anything, it’s best to hear it straight from the horse’s mouth.

I’m not one that expects to have it all his own way. I’ll accept a bit of criticism and will hold my hand up as long as it’s fair.

A few of the lads themselves gave me some support and Ross and Brano both sent in their questions. It was good to have a little bit of banter and hopefully that shows the spirit in the camp.

Supporters sometimes put footballers on a pedestal, which we don’t deserve, or they’ll treat them as something low, which again isn’t right. What we want is a happy medium between the two and I think things like the webchat help with that.

I went for a scan on my calf afterwards and luckily there was no tear there. It’s improved a lot so hopefully it will be okay for Saturday.

I never expected to be playing Wimbledon in a league game again. The fact that they are here is testament not only to the hard work of the management and the team but the supporters as well.

I thought they needed their heads examined when they first restarted the club. But they have shown the definition of true fans by following their team through thick and thin.

Wimbledon’s crazy gang spirit will always have a place in football history, so it was sad to see them go. But if the current club have half that spirit, then I’m sure they won’t do too badly.
