Bradford City remain top of the FA Women’s Northern Combination by virtue of a 2-0 midweek victory over Wakefield but face a tough return game against South Durham at Thackley on Sunday.

The north-east side ended City’s unbeaten start two weeks ago, winning 2-1, but with six wins out of seven the Bradford ladies will be hoping to turn the tables.

Wakefield belied their lowly position against City with a determined performance that kept the leaders at bay for long periods and it was the 49th minute before a Charlotte Stuart strike broke the deadlock.

Despite the advantage, City had to wait until two minutes from time before finally securing the points with a Kirsty Russell effort.

Sheffield Wednesday, 1-0 winners over Stockport, remain two points behind City in second place, while fifth-placed Huddersfield Town are five points adrift after being without a game.

Guiseley crashed to their heaviest North-East Regional League defeat of the season as they went down 6-1 at Hessle in the Premier Division.

And in Division One North, the Bradford City A team find themselves at the foot of the table after a 3-1 loss at home to Ossett Albion.

Rothwell Town head this division with three wins out of three after a 5-2 victory at Malet Lambert.

But there was no joy for Kirklees, who were beaten 8-3 at Lepton Highlanders.

Keighley Oaks head the West Riding League Premier Division after a thumping 17-0 win over Ossett Town, who have now conceded 28 goals in two games.

But Bradford Park Avenue slipped to their second successive defeat as they went down 6-1 at Harrogate Railway.

In Division One, Silsden got their league season off to a great start with a 6-0 win over Castleford White Rose Reserves.

Huddersfield Town Reserves, who were 6-1 winners over Howden Clough, lead the way in Division Three.
