Oscar Jansson saved two penalties in the shoot-out as City knocked Sheffield Wednesday out of the JPT tonight in dramatic fashion.

City scored all three of theirs while Clinton Morrison also blazed over the bar as the hosts clinched it 3-1 following a 0-0 draw over 90 minutes.

Jansson ripped off his shirt and led a chorus of celebration from the Sunwin Stand after being mobbed by his team-mates.

It was the right result. City had looked the better side in a game that only came to the boil in the second half.

Phil Parkinson will inherit a side with confidence bubbling from back-to-back wins under Colin Cooper's temporary stewardship.

James Hanson missed the best chance of a poor first half right on the break, heading wide from Mark Stewart's cross.

And City were gifted another opportunity within seconds of the restart after Jack Compton intercepted Ayo Obileye's poor back pass to force a save.

Wednesday back-up keeper Richard O'Donnell baled out the debutant defender again by denying Stewart after another Obileye mistake.

Luke Oliver went the closest yet midway through the second half with a header which Cecil Nyoni cleared off the line. It looked over.

Owls boss Gary Megson had got round the JPT rules regarding team strength by making all three of his subs in the first 17 minutes.

But O'Donnell, who had come on in the second minute, earned his keep with a superb late save from Ritchie Jones' volley.

And City were denied again in stoppage time when Oliver's header came back off the bar.

But justice was done in the shoot-out.
