Peter Jackson started his reign as permanent City boss in less than impressive fashion.

Aldershot snatched all three points as the Bantams slumped to a 2-1 defeat on home soil in their League Two opener.

The visitors scored twice in the first half and then attempted to shut up shop, frustrating all the hosts' attempts to claim at least a point.

Alex Rodman was crucial to both goals, the winger a constant thorn in City's side.

His purposeful run and interchange of passes with Anthony Straker left the defence bamboozled before he drove the ball across the box for Danny Hylton to score from close range.

The second was even more embarrassing for the hosts, Rodman's cross headed into his own net by Robbie Threlfall with the defence at sixes and sevens.

City were better after the break but struggled to provide any real flashpoints.

David Syers headed wide from a Mitchell cross, while Threlfall was muscled off the ball inside the area at the end of a strong run.

Jackson's side did grab a late consolation, reward for their undoubted effort, when James Hanson headed home Jack Compton's short cross.
