Bradford Park Avenue 2, Leeds United 1
Avenue enjoyed a second success against Football League opposition this pre-season when they beat a strong Leeds United XI 2-1 at Horsfall Stadium.
Following their 3-2 victory over the Bantams, they can also claim to be first club to beat Leeds’ new goalkeeper.
Andy Lonergan was signed as a replacement for Kasper Schmeichel and he made his United debut tonight.
But he was beaten midway through the first half by Aiden Savory’s well-struck low drive.
Savory was also involved as Avenue went 2-0 up before the break, his pinpoint cross following a good run finding close-season signing Richard Marshall and he headed into the top corner.
The visitors, watched by club director Shaun Harvey and first-team manager Simon Grayson, were better after the interval and Mike Grella halved the deficit.
Meanwhile, BRIGHOUSE TOWN fared much worse at home as they lost their derby against SILSDEN 4-2.
The visitors ran out comfortable winners after catching the home side cold and romping to a four-goal lead in just over half an hour.
