The City goalkeeping situation remains Peter Jackson’s top priority.

After deciding not to offer terms to trialist Mark Howard, the Bantams boss is set to hand Jon Brain another chance in tonight’s friendly at Hull City.

Former Walsall and Macclesfield shot-stopper Brain lined up between the sticks in the pre-season opener against Silsden and has been invited back for a second chance.

But Jackson is also in talks with a Premier League club about a potential loan deal for a young keeper and intends to keep his options open.

Current No 1 Jon McLaughlin remains sidelined by illness but should return in Friday’s development squad game.

Jackson said: “A goalkeeper is the priority at the moment. We are trying to bring one in on loan from a Premier League club.

“We’re looking at the loan market because it gives us a bit of flexibility and we’re keen to bring in some competition for Jon.

“It’s especially important because he’s had 11 days off ill but he should return on Friday.”

Along with Howard, who had started each of the past three pre-season games, fellow trialist Jack Compton has also left the club.

The Falkirk winger featured against both Bradford Park Avenue and Bolton Wanderers but Jackson has decided not to tie up a permanent deal.

Jamie Green will, however, be given the chance to impress against Hull after missing the defeat to Bolton through injury.

The left back or winger has already featured in pre-season against Guiseley and is keen to earn a contract following his release by Rotherham. David Syers should also return to action at the KC Stadium.

“It’s a decent squad going across there and Dave Syers should be available after he was ill for Bolton,” said Jackson.

“Jamie Green will get a chance too. He’s done okay in training, has a good attitude and works hard, so hopefully he can put in a good performance. It’s his chance to impress.”
