Leeds United boss Simon Grayson is confident that Robert Snodgrass and Max Gradel will still be United players when the season kicks off at Southampton on August 6.

With the exception of goalkeeper Kasper Schmiechel, who has left for Leicester City, Grayson revealed that Snodgrass is the only player at the club to have attracted a bid so far this summer.

Norwich are keen to land the highly-rated Scot, while United’s Player of the Year Gradel is rumoured to be attracting interest from a host of clubs, with Fulham, West Ham and Swansea heading the queue.

Snodgrass agreed a new four-year deal in 2009 but Gradel, who scored 18 goals last season, is starting the final year of his contract, making him especially vulnerable to predators.

Grayson said: “I am really positive about the prospects of keeping Robert and Max because we are not a selling club anymore.

"It is not as if we have to sell players to finance the books or that we are in debt. Any time a player goes out it is to benefit our football club and not anybody else’s.

“Throughout this country and the world, every player will have a price that suits a transfer but I repeat we don’t have to sell.

"In Kasper’s case, we decided it was the right thing for the club (to sell him) and the money will go into the kitty to recruit players. If anyone else goes out, it will be the same scenario.

“If it means Max staying here and seeing out his contract, then fair enough. We could get an offer for him, going into the final year of his contract, and decide it is the right thing for us to accept, or we could do what we did with Jermaine Beckford, who stayed until his contract was up.

“In the meantime, there might be contract negotiations going on – there are so many scenarios that can happen over the next few weeks with all the players, but you always want to keep your best ones.”

Grayson added: “When we signed Max (from Leicester) he wasn’t a name. Nobody seemed to know much about him, so the length of his contract reflected that, but he has really developed since then and he took off last year.

"When you have good players, they are going to attract interest from other clubs but we will only sell if it suits us.

“I have spoken to all the players who have been the subject of speculation and they all want to stay here. We can fulfil their ambition.”
