Leeds United have three players hoping for international action this weekend.

Winger or striker Max Gradel, United’s Player of the Year, could make his debut for the Ivory Coast against Benin after being an unused substitute against the same opponents in an African Cup of Nations qualifier in March.

Gradel, 23, scored 18 goals in 41 league appearances for the club last season – just two goals fewer than top-scorer Luciano Becchio.

Striker Davide Somma is set to appear for South Africa against Eqypt, while keeper Kasper Schmeichel is in Denmark’s squad for a friendly in Iceland.

Somma, 26, who has two full caps and scored his first international goal against Kenya in February, recently earned high praise from former Leeds and South Africa captain Lucas Radebe, who predicted a long international career for the man who was born in Johannesburg and brought up in America.

Somma netted 11 league goals in 29 games for United last term and Schmeichel, 24, made 37 league appearances.

Schmeichel is keen to follow in his famous father Peter’s footsteps by playing for his country’s senior team but the Leeds keeper is currently third choice. He has played 17 times for Denmark’s under-21s.
