The successor to Mark Brier at Brighouse Town's Dual Seal Stadium will be Mick Couzens, who is leaving the reserve team and under-19s of Bradford Park Avenue behind him for a second stab at being in charge of a first team.

Couzens needs no introduction locally after stints with Eccleshill United, Avenue (twice), Guiseley and his work as a coach with junior teams since his return to the city from an 11-year spell coaching in the Middle East.

He left his first successful spell in charge of Avenue’s second and youth teams to take the top job at UniBond Premier Division outfit Ossett Town but quit months into the season.

He resurfaced at Guiseley but at the end of the season before last he resigned to return to Horsfall Stadium.

The last campaign brought more titles and trophies but he put his hat into the ring when it became known that Brier was leaving Town.

He impressed in the interview and he will be taking over at the end of the month when he returns from holiday.

Brighouse secretary and spokesman Malcolm Taylor said: "Mick will be our new manager and we are delighted that he has accepted the challenge. He brings his own assistant in Barry Thomas but will also be working with Mark Booth.

“Mark has been with us before when he managed our reserve side and he also knows Mick because they were together at Ossett.

"Mick is not a stranger to us but he has never worked for the club before so we will be having meetings with him once he gets back.

“He has done the same job before at other clubs, sometimes with reserve sides, but it’s the same and he knows most of our players.

"Before he went off he arranged an informal get- together with the squad, for a chat and a light training session, at our ground on June 6, and we said we will see who turns up and the way things go from there.

“Mick and Barry have a proven record as a pairing and Mark is well liked at our club. We won the Reserve Division Cup with him and had other successes for the second team and under-19s. There were quite a few trophies in the three or four years that he was running them.”
