It has been a season to forget for City but David Syers has his eye on finishing “top” of their league.

The Bantams need a single point to be absolutely sure of safety – or one out of Barnet, Northampton and Lincoln not to win their remaining games.

Monday’s victory took the heat off tomorrow’s final away trip at Hereford, who are only three points above the relegation trapdoor themselves.

But Syers, who was credited with the decisive goal against Aldershot, still wants to end up in the highest position possible.

City are one of four sides tied on 51 points, six behind the 13th-placed Shots, and the midfielder believes finishing at the front of that little group would be a small consolation after a torrid term.

“The table has been split into two this year with the gap between Aldershot and Morecambe,” he said.

“It would be good if we could end up at the top of the bottom lot and take that as something positive to build on.”
