Mark Lawn today accused Bradford Council of “burying their head in the sand” over City’s Valley Parade crisis.

The joint-chairman claimed the local authority are doing nothing as the club seek a solution to their problems with the stadium’s “astronomical” costs.

Writing in the programme for the Aldershot game, Lawn said: “Does anyone really think that Bradford needs another hole in the ground?

“Because that is what Valley Parade will effectively become if Bradford City are forced to move out.

“Can you name many other tourist attractions in this city that bring in more than 30,000 visitors per month?

“Valley Parade does this and yet we get no support from the council at all.”

Lawn warned that if City were forced to quit their home, they would leave behind a “blot on the landscape”.

He said: “Even if the council were able to offer some (rates) concessions, this would be a help and yet they insist that this is a matter of central government.

“If so, they should be telling the government to do something about it or otherwise we risk creating another blot on the Bradford landscape.”

Lawn’s attack comes as City face another nerve-wracking afternoon. With three games left, the gap to the League Two relegation zone is down to four points.

Peter Jackson, fuming with Saturday’s 3-0 loss at Accrington, has spelled out the critical situation facing his team as they head into today’s home clash against the Shots.

The interim boss said: “This club will go out of business if we go down. That’s the truth. The players have to realise that. Jobs are on the line and so are livelihoods.

“Aldershot were beaten at home (on Saturday) but that’s only three defeats in 18. Make no mistake, it will be a difficult game.

“All I ask – and the fans want – is for the team to go out and be passionate about playing football for this really good club. We’re fighting and scrapping for our lives.”
