City will invite Italian winger Christian Nanetti back to Valley Parade for a week’s training.

The 19-year-old trialist caught the eye with a lively performance in the reserves against Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday.

Now Peter Jackson wants to have a more considered look at him before deciding whether to take it any further.

Nanetti, a former junior at QPR under Neil Warnock, is currently playing for Jamie Lawrence’s Ashford Town (Middlesex) and also attends his soccer academy.

Lawrence believes the Bologna-born flier, who also spent a couple of months with Raith Rovers, would be a great acquisition for his old club.

He said: “He’s very direct and goes past players like they aren’t there. The Bradford fans will enjoy him.

“Christian’s exciting and he always wants the ball.

“He’s the type of out-and-out winger that a lot of teams are missing at the moment.

“I wouldn’t send Bradford a dud – he’s a very confident player and well worth a look at.”

Nanetti could command a small fee because he is under contract but Lawrence insists it would be sound business.

“He’s been with me two or three months now and I’ve seen enough to know how good he is. I try to test people mentally – if I have to tell them something more than once then you aren’t the player I want.

“But Christian’s an honest player who will track back and he’s not scared of being tackled. At the level he’s playing at the moment, they kick him from pillar to post and he just gets on with it.”

Assistant manager Colin Cooper praised the mindset of City’s first-team fringe players in the 4-0 win against youthful opponents, who were mainly scholars.

While Nanetti and scorers Leon Osborne and Chib Chilaka grabbed the attention, Cooper was pleased with the general focus of the side.

He said: “Senior players have got to lead the younger ones in games like that and set examples. They did everything we’ve asked of them.

“Reserve games often become a battle against yourself and everyone has different kinds of agendas. You’ve got trialists, kids, senior players with first-team experience needing some match practice and someone like Tommy Doc (Doherty) who’ve been out a while looking to build up fitness.

“Everybody has got to get something out of the game. I think the attitude and application was spot on.

“We’re trying to put our stamp on things and make them get the ball down and play a little bit more.

“If that can carry through the reserves into the first team then hopefully we’ll have some success.

“The bravery in football often comes from having the courage to control the ball and pass it.”

City, meanwhile, will not be pursuing an interest in former Cardiff winger Jonathan Brown.
