Mel Burgess was instrumental in all Bingley Bees’ goals as they won 3-1 against Sheffield Hallam thirds.

The Bees’ first team had to shrug off a very early start in the first of four rearranged fixtures, travelling with the bare minimum 11 players.

But they were determined to put two successive losses behind them and enjoyed the best of the first-half play, although they were unable to break the deadlock.

That changed soon after the interval as captain Gail Day changed the formation to strengthen Bingley’s attack and Gaynor Fisher finished off a strong move.

Fisher added her second when following up to convert Burgess’s initial effort, with joint player of the match Nancy Moore claiming the third goal with a reverse-stick strike to finish off a move started in the Bees’ own half.

Sheffield clawed a goal back five minutes from time but Bingley had done enough to seal the points by then.

Two early goals set up the Bees women’s second team for a 4-0 home win over Netherwood firsts on a rain-swept pitch.

Cath Gallimore and Jane Sharkey scored inside the first 11 minutes as Bingley dominated the match with smooth passing, holding their structure well.

The second half started in similar style with a well-taken goal which started from the heart of the defence, a one-touch passing move ending with a fine strike by Gaynor Fisher.

The Bees wrapped up the scoring with a final goal by player of the match Sian Porter.

Bingley’s men were humbled 7-0 away to Ben Rhydding sixths, although they had to field a much-weakened squad due to the unavailability of a number of players.

Several positional changes were forced upon the Bees against well-organised opposition but they actually played well with plenty of positives coming from the game.

Rhydding fully deserved the three points but the final scoreline did not truly reflect the match as a whole.
