The World Seniors’ Championship, which was held at the Cedar Court Hotel in Bradford last November, could be televised live by Sky Sports later this year.

Joint organiser Dave Shipley said: “We have had preliminary talks with Barry Hearn at the World Snooker Association and Sky were delighted with the response from the seven one-hour programmes they showed of last year’s event over Christmas.

”There is talk about Sky showing the tournament live later this year and it will again be held at the Cedar Court.

“Barry was also delighted with the way it went and is well up for it going live.

“Apparently all that Jimmy White (last year’s champion, pictured) was talking about at last weekend’s World Snooker Shoot-Out in Blackpool was the world seniors!”

Shipley added: “Last year was a sell-out, with about half the tickets going to local spectators and half to others from all over the place.

“We would like to bring the qualifying to just before the main event – it was held in May last year – but as the Cedar Court Hotel are unlikely to hand over their main room for a week to us, it is likely that the qualifying will again be at Cue Gardens Snooker Club in Odsal.”
